Good morning! Hope all is well on you half of the world. was there a torrential storm here recently? i had no idea if there was...
got to stay at the farm last night and today for the first time. it's so peaceful out here, nothing like town, which always stresses me out even when I don't go out! Of course there is also language class, which is staring to drive me crazy! My partner and I learn completely differently, and fortunately for her, the class is structured more to her preferences...But I'm still learning, i just wish we were moving faster... So far we have successfully found places in town by asking for directions, ordered food, found the meat grinder, though he was off for the afternoon so we could grind our beef, negotiated prices on various items, and other basic survival things.
i am discovering how little i like most of the food here, but i can stomach everything but the MSG and tomatoes... One thing that I do like is the fact that hash browns are common and available for almost every meal! I love potatoes! Fruits and veggies are abundant here, much different from my last trip!
Not a day passes that I do not find myself thankful for my expereinces in Niger 2 years ago. I know that may shock some of you, and I honestly didn't think I'd ever say that, but it is so true. The lessons I learned may have been from negative expereinces, but he has used them to show me so much. I can't wait to share with you when i get home! Just last night we discussed the importance of conflict resolution with our Super. Great times. Also, I can open the fridge here as many times as I want, and I even have my own bottle of parmesean cheese! Also, I don't have to sleep on a cot, i have a western style toilet (haven't used a squatty since I got here...) and a propane hot water heater for my SHOWER!!! That's right, no bucket baths here! Really suffering for the cause here...;)
I just want you all to know that I love you all and miss you and think of you every day and always thank him for every rememberance of you. I'll try to get some pictures up soon, but if not, know that I'm taking them and you'll see them soon!
Happy Birthday, JJ. And congrats on the date! I plan to be there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many blessings,
