This week, I started watching Parks and Recreation on Hulu. This is NOT a major contributing factor to the not-getting-my-reading-done dilemma. Really. It happens that Parks and Recreation is the only thing that has been able to keep my awake some nights. But then, the episode ends, my face hurts from laughing, and I pick that book back up, only to fall asleep in the pages. The only reason I've lived through these dozings is that some genius decided to invent books with spines, creating a nice V shape that at once cradles the face and allows for the passage of air through the crease. I wish I'd invented it.
Another thing I accomplished this week: finding a job. With 10% of Americans unemployed and apparently no one in need of an English Writing degree (what, I'm supposed to write a book? I wish!), I made the round of bookstores, hardware stores, hobby stores, department stores, chicken stores, and grocery stores. I finally landed a job at a place where the treasures stored in heaven gain value on earth-a Christian daycare. I feel blessed, I really do. I'm also relishing these last few days of health, as I know that as soon as I step into that room of treasures dripping liquid gold from their noses, I'll have a cold, and it won't go away until May. But I still love kids!
And for some reason that I know and any other woman in the world will know, I've been crying a lot this week at REALLY stupid things. Case in point: I just watched a Toyota commercial about how the company has dropped the ball in recent years. They apologized to their customers and vowed to do the right thing. It was just so unexpected to see a company do the right thing that, yes, I teared up! I cleared it quickly, but still! I can't believe this! Crazy.
Any ways, I've crawled into bed early tonight because I'm not feeling well. I have my Ethics book right next to me, but I'm not going to read it. I'm going to watch on of my favorite movies. Penelope. I will admit, mostly because James McAvoy is in it. But also because it's a good story. And we all need someone to see the beauty within.
Nighty Night!
