Hey! I wanted you all to be able to see a little bit of life on the farm, so I'm finally able to sit down and upload a few pictures and video! First, I'll tell you a little about life here. I'm having a great time, but I do get homesick a little some times. I get to play with kids all day, and we do fun things. I help them with school, but I try to make it a little more interesting than just school. Right now, Amanda (11) is designing a travel website for her geography class. She's only supposed to draw a picture of the site (BORING!) so I'm teaching her how to use Publisher to design it! She's loving it! I told her she couldn't do China (since she lives here) so she picked India! She's going to make another site about China or Yunnan after the school project is done with, and she's really liking Publisher! If only I had a Mac... Then she could learn the real deal! InDesign! Oh to get my hands on that for her!!!!! Anyways, more about life here...
Spencer (6, soon to be 7) is adorable. He's a very loving child, quite sensitive. He asked me the other day how I came to know his mom, and how I knew to come here and help. I told him, and he said "I'm glad you came to help, because I heard you had to sell your car to come, and I really like you being here!" That made me so happy! It made everything worthwhile!
This past week has been a little rough, though. The Elizabeth (8) came down with a 104 degree fever last Wednesday and was flown to Bangkok on Thursday with the symptoms of severe blood poisoning. Her dad went with her, and her mom joined later that evening, so I was charged with the kids for the weekend. Elizabeth is better now, and will be home Wednesday (8 days sooner than expected) but it was still a very stressful time. She has thankfully shown amazing recovery, but the doctors did say it was good that she got there when she did, or they might have had to cut off part or all of her foot! But she is still a bi-ped, thank goodness. However, I was busy dealing with school and worry all by myself for a few days and was required by my super to rest all day Sunday. We are now planning a "Congratulations, you're all better and they didn't have to cut off your foot" party for her homecoming. We're having a blast with that!
Thought I would have pictures this post, but blogger is being silly and taking forever to upload...just so you know, three hours isn't long enough! So I'm going to close and hope to add pictures soon. Hannah, however, just created a blog and was able to load 5 pics and a video...her address is followHERtravels.blogspot.com So go visit her sight to see a select few pictures of our trip...
